DEPARTMENT STORES IN NEW YORK

The most famous department stores in New York are probably Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. These New York department stores are perfect for shopping in Manhattan as they have a huge selection of products. Shopping here is luxurious, but also expensive in most cases. Macy's is among the most affordable department stores mentioned above, so it's no wonder it's a favorite among tourists.

BIG STORES IN NYC

If you like shopping in department stores, you will find what you are looking for in 2 addresses:

➜ Macy's

We're coming back! Before being the largest store in the world, Macy's is above all an almost classic department store if we disregard its oversized area! You will therefore find a multitude of floors and "rays", from household equipment to ready-to-wear for the whole family, accessories, cosmetics, evening wear and other jewellery...

➜ Bloomingdale's

The New York department store brand par excellence! Smaller and more walkable than Macy's, you'll find most of the major brands in a chic and distinguished shopping atmosphere. The 2 main branches of Bloomingdale's are in Soho and Midtown (at the limit with the Upper East Side).

New York is also known for its luxury department stores, mostly located on 5th Avenue, including: Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman.

THE BEST STORES IN NEW YORK

Macy's on 5th Avenue

Macy's is both the oldest and best known department store in New York. Divided into 7 floors, it offers everything a shopping lover may need. We usually buy things for our daughter here, since they are much cheaper than in Europe. Also as tourists, if you have contracted a New York Pass they will give you an extra discount of 11% on all your purchases. A marvel!

Bloomingdale's

Women's consumer paradise: Bloomingdale's is a New York institution. The most famous are their small brown bags ("Little Brown Bag" or "Medium Brown Bag"). The popularity of this shopping center is well justified, its variety is immense and very interesting. Although it does not have a male department, we are sure that men will be able to find the best gift for their girls here. In any case, if you are a fan of shopping, man or woman, this point is well worth a visit.

You will find more than one Bloomingdale's in Manhattan, simply look for the one closest to you. In addition, as users of the New York Pass, you will receive a 15% discount on your purchases.

Tiffany & Co.

Known worldwide, especially thanks to the movies, Tiffany & Co. is definitely a must-see on a New York shopping tour. Although there are several branches around the city, the most mythical is the one located on 5th Avenue. Even so, in any of its 9 stores you can buy the best jewelry. From very reasonable prices to the most decadent pieces, here you will find all the brilliance and elegance you are looking for.

Address: 1727 Fifth Ave., at 57th Street

Opening hours:  Mon – Sat: 10:00 – 19:00, Sun: 12:00 – 18:00

Victoria's Secret

Victoria's Secret is another of the most important brands that we find in New York. This brand focuses mainly on women's intimate apparel, but also has great swimwear and shoes. You will find more than 40 official Victoria's Secret stores in New York. In this link you can find the one that best suits you. When it comes to shopping in New York, Victoria's Secret has to be on the must-see list.

Address: 1727 Fifth Ave., at 57th Street

H&M in Times Square

Futuristic, modern and surprising. These are the three most used adjectives when talking about the H&M store in Times Square. Since its opening in the fall of 2013 with the participation of Lady Gaga, all the new collections of the Swedish brand have been presented here. Often, what is going to work in the market is tested here, and it is decided what is sold and what is not in the rest of the multinational stores. The shopping day here is always enlivened with live music from a DJ, and its workers presume to be the friendliest in the market. It's always a great experience shopping here although sometimes it can be a bit crazy as they change the decor and layout almost daily and some collections disappear as fast as they arrived. In total there are 35 H&M in New York but none is as special as this one, given the choice.

Address: 4 Times Square 1472 Broadway New York NY 10036

Opening hours: daily, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 a.m.

Century 21 Department Store

For those looking for the best bargains in Manhattan you don't necessarily need to limit yourself to the Outlets. At Century 21 you can find almost all brands for incredibly low prices. A giant shopping center with an even more gigantic offer. From Tommy Hilfiger to Prada, through Michael Cors, Gucci, Polo Ralph Lauren, Lacoste. It doesn't matter if you're looking for sportswear or eveningwear, classic or modern... you'll find absolutely everything here. Suits, leather jackets, high heels, sneakers, sunglasses, bags, underwear, cosmetics... EVERYTHING. This is both the advantage and the disadvantage, sometimes it becomes difficult to find what you are looking for among so many options. Prices, with discounts of up to 80%. Arrive early and take your time to search, I love it!

Address:

My favorite is the one at 22 Cortlandt St, New York, NY 10007 (near Ground Zero)

Also good is the one at 1972 Broadway, New York, NY & 9 E Broadway

Opening hours:  Mon-Wed: 7:45 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Thu-Fri: 7:45 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Sat: 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. & Sun: 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

Steve Madden New York

This is one of the most purely New York brands on the city's shopping scene. Steve Madden, in the rest of the world better known as "The Wolf of Wallstreet", gives his name to this brand of shoes. This footwear as special and unique as New York, you will always find the ideal pas for your outfit. Prices start at $40, suitable for all pockets. My favorite store is the one on 5th Avenue, although they also have stores all over New York. Also in Jersey Gardens they have a great Outlet Store.

Address:

  • 540 Broadway New York
  • 41 W 34th St New York
  • 720 Lexington Ave New York

Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Michael Kors

You will find watches, bags, suitcases, shoes and the latest from Michael Kors here. You will immediately realise that it is particularly full of tourists and that is that the prices have nothing to do with the prices of the brand in Europe, where it is highly appreciated. The offer is also greater and we all know that there is nothing that drives women more crazy than handbags, especially if they are exclusive and freshly brought from New York. Right now the SoHo branch is in the process of opening and we can't wait to see it.

Address:

Midtown 133 5th Ave
New York

SoHo: 101 Prince St New York

Opening hours:  Mon-Sat: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Sun: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

SPORTS STORES IN NEW YORK: SPORT AND FREE TIME

Nike

This Nike store is huge, if you like sportswear it will drive you crazy. This is where I usually buy my running clothes and it is where I got my beloved Nike Air that I use almost daily to hit New York. The offer is greater and more interesting and the currency exchange works in your favor.

Address: 57th St between 5th and 6th Avenue

Opening hours:  Mon – Sat: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sun: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

FOOT LOCKER New York Herald Square

Who is looking for the perfect running shoes here is, after Niketown, the largest offer, ordered by sports discipline, gender and age. The prices are fair and the variety to take into account. The latest models from big brands like Nike, Adidas or New Balance, in all possible sizes and colors, arrive at Foot Locker as quickly as their own stores. Any sports lover would lose the card here, especially in the one located right in front of Macy's, the largest and most varied in the city.

Address: Midtown West Herald Square / 34. St across from Macy's

Opening hours: Mon- Fri: 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Sat-Sun: 9:00 a.m./11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Adidas Originals Store

Another one of my favorite stores, I always stop by when I'm looking for comfortable and stylish sportswear. Located in the center of SoHo you will find the Adidas mega - store, with an unlimited and very complete offer. The Original Series focuses on the brand's sports fashion between the 60s and 80s, but reinterpreted according to the times.

Address: 136 Wooster Street (Near Broadway, 4 blocks south by Washington Square Park)

Opening hours:  Mon–Sat: 11:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m., Sun: 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

THRIFT STORES IN NEW YORK

Thrift stores in New York

A second chance” – Second-hand luxury in Soho

This second-hand store located in the center of Manhattan is specialized in giving a new life to garments from such exclusive brands as channel, prada, Gucci or Hermes. Here you will find from impressive bargains to collector's items that cost more than 20,000. If you are thinking of taking advantage of your trip to New York to get a piece from one of these cult brands, a good idea might be to stop by here first to make sure you don't pay more for the same thing.

Address: 155 Prince Street in SoHo

Buffalo Exchange

This is probably the most famous thrift store in New York. Here the New Yorkers bring the clothes they no longer use to sell them. Shoes, dresses, jeans, t-shirts, coats… anything that is in usable condition can be bought and sold at the Buffalo Exchange. The sheer variety and immense offerings mean Buffalo Exchange has to be on the list of every bargain hunter visiting New York.

Addresses: Queens (29-16 Ditmars Blvd.), Williamsburg (504 Driggs Ave.), Brooklyn (109 Boerum Pl.), East Village ( 332 E. 11th St.), Chelsea (114 W. 26th St.)

SHOPPING IN NEW YORK: STORES FOR MEN AND TECH LOVERS

Porsche design

Another absolutely cool brand is Porsche Design which offers men's footwear, clothing, jewelry and accessories. Its design is always minimalist, sober and nothing fancy, aimed at a serious adult audience looking for a touch of elegance for their day-to-day accessories. Realistically this isn't a particularly cheap brand but that doesn't make it any less deserving of a spot on this list. As with all the stores on this list, thanks to the exchange rate, it is always worth more to do our shopping in New York than back in Europe. I am a big fan of the brand, not every day, but I have already bought two very special gifts here.

Directions: (There are 3 Porch Design in New York)

  • 624 Madison Ave (Off 59)
  • Porsche Design SoHo (465 W Broadway, off W Houston Street. – on the same block as the Adidas Originals Store)
  • 540 Madison Ave (55th Street)

Hugo Boss

This classic-cut brand, known for its magnificent suits, blazers and jackets, is much cheaper in New York compared to its price in Spain. That is why the Hugo Boss stores in the city are always worth a visit. One of them is located in the famous Columbus Circle. The other two that I also like are at 555 Broadway and Spring Street and in the Meatpacking District.

Address:  There are 8 HUGO BOSS in New York. You  can consult the Store Locator here.

Kenneth Cole

This is without a doubt one of my favorite brands, so it has a guaranteed place on our list. Present 4 times in New York our favorite is the one on Lexington Avenue. Even so, we have no problem going shopping at the Grand Central Terminal, which is the largest of all and, therefore, the best stocked.

Official website: https://www.kennethcole.com/

Apple Store New York

World-renowned and architecturally monumental. The Store is located on 5th Avenue, where at first glance you can only see a translucent cube with the apple logo. A real tourist attraction for Apple fans.

Apart from this there are other Apple stores in New York, the other largest is Grand Central Station. Another option is to take advantage of the walk through the High Line Park to visit the Meatpacking District, also interesting.
