Central Park zoo is one of the most famous attractions in New York City. It is located in the central part of Manhattan and is located on an area of 3.4 square meters. km.

The zoo dates back to 1859. According to legend, people brought strange animals to this place. The opening of the park took place a year later. In 1934, some innovations took place: a pool was built for marine life (sea lions). The 80s of the last century were very difficult and during this period the zoo stopped its work.
1988 was marked by the start of the construction of the menagerie. At this time, comfortable conditions began to be created for the living of representatives of the animal world, collected in one territory from different climatic zones.

Animal world of the zoo
A large number of monkeys live here, however, you can also meet rarer specimens of animals.
For example, a polar bear, the snow leopard that arrived here from Central Asia; red pandas - immigrants from Asia, penguins from Antarctica, many species of birds and reptiles. There is also a pavilion with bats. Special conditions have been created for each type of animal. Some of them are kept in specially equipped premises, some in pools.

Children perceive the zoo as an amazing fairy tale where you can be in close proximity to representatives of the animal world. You can touch them, feed them (for this, they buy food in a special machine), stroke them.
4-D films (Planet Earth and Rio) are a magical journey that immerses the viewer in the real environment, which allows you to feel the touch of plants, snow or clouds, even smells.
Working hours
In summer, the zoo operates from 8:00 to 17:00, and in winter: from 8:00 to !6:30.
The most interesting time to visit is when the park staff feed the penguins (10:30 and 14:30) and sea lions (11:30; 14:00; 16:00).
Ticket prices for visitors are:
- For adults — 12 dollars.
- For children over 3 years old and visitors of retirement age - from 7 to 9 dollars.
- For children under 3 years old, visiting the zoo is free.
Numerous cafes located on the territory of the zoo are open to visitors. Here you can not only eat, but also relax.
Other things to do in Central Park
There are two ice skating rinks on the territory of the park, which operate from October to March:
• Wollman Rink is considered one of the most popular in the world. It occupies a huge area (2,600 sq. m.). In addition, frames of this place are repeatedly found in different films (for example, in the comedy "Home Alone 2"). In the summer season, which lasts from June to September, an amusement park (food courts, various attractions), playgrounds for children operate on the site of the skating rink.
• Lasker Rink is no less in demand. In addition to ice skating, hockey matches or figure skating at a professional level are held here. In the summer season, a swimming pool appears on the site of the park, which makes this place especially popular on hot days.
A great place to relax in the park is Great Lawn, which is a huge green space that is used for various types of recreation. In the summer you can have picnics here, play active sports (for example, basketball or baseball), sometimes I organize concert performances on the Great Lawn.
Nearby is Belvedere Castle, next to which is a picturesque pond with turtles.
The Shakespeare Garden is famous for the fact that in 1602 the writer himself planted a Mulberry tree on the territory. There are a lot of different types of flora in the garden, which are present in the works of the famous author.
During the summer season, the Delacorte Theater hosts a celebrity festival called Shakespeare in the Park.
The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir is the largest reservoir located in Central Park.
