HISTORY AND OUR TIME:
George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein founded the New York City Ballet in 1948. Their goal was to create and perform a completely new ballet repertoire, with the help of which it would be possible to rethink the principles of classical dance.Currently, under the direction of Peter Martins, about 100 dancers take part in the productions, and 62 musicians are involved in the orchestra. The troupe is firmly established in New York at the John Koch Theater and tours around the country and abroad.
TROUPE REPERTOIRE:
The repertoire is based on the productions of the first director of the ballet George Balanchine, who created over a hundred performances. The troupe regularly experiments with genres and discovers forms that are not quite familiar to the public - here you can see both classical ballet and one-act plotless mini-performances.One of the outstanding examples of the American ballet school is the Christmas Nutcracker with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky compositions and Balanchine's choreography. This is undoubtedly the highlight of the winter program, which is always awaited with special trepidation. You can see it from the end of November to the beginning of January.
Among the outstanding productions are the classics of ballet art: A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Swan Lake. The repertoire exceeds 400 productions, approximately 60 of which are danced during the annual season (ballet season in New York lasts from September to June).

MISSION
New York City Ballet remains true to its original ambitious goal of expanding ballet's audience and making it accessible to the widest possible audience. To make this a reality, New York City Ballet is evolving along three main lines:
Preservation of the classic foundations
Preserving the aesthetics of dance and the unshakable standards of excellence set by the founders.
Continuous communication with the public
Not only performances on the native stage are organized, but also tours, public educational programs, virtual master classes and other information and educational events that you can go to both yourself and with children.
Passion for experiment
The forces of contemporary choreographers and composers are creating fundamentally new productions that would correspond to our time. Hence - an unusually wide genre coverage of the repertoire, not to mention the stunning costumes and scenery.
