Mandrem - a beach in Goa, which you really want to return to

With this publication, I begin a series of short articles about a trip to India. Several years have passed since this trip, but from time to time there is a desire to visit India in general and Goa in particular again.

Initially, my colleague Sergey and I were going to go to Cuba, but we couldn't find cheap tickets. And then suddenly turned up a budget tour for two weeks in the tiny and most touristy of all the states of India - in Goa.

The cost of the tour at that time was even slightly lower than the cost of air travel. Thus, we didn’t have to think for a long time and we decided to fly to India to relax on the beaches of Goa and leave for a couple of days outside of it.

And our acquaintance with India began with the most calm and peaceful beach in North Goa - Mandrem Beach. It is always extremely sparsely populated, quiet and very calm. Having traveled most of the beaches of Goa, we realized that Mandrem is still the best and most beloved. If I gather again in Goa, then I will definitely choose this beach as the main point of my stay.

Here I had a daily ceremony, which gave me special pleasure. In the early morning at sunrise, I got up and went for a walk along the edge of the Arabian Sea, listening to Indian mantras and Goa trance on the player.

And at this time, I met occasionally only people doing yoga and jogging, as well as very friendly stray dogs who are always happy to see you.

I guess we were very lucky as we were originally supposed to live in Candolim. But somehow it happened that the hotel in which we were supposed to check in was full. As a result, we were taken to Mandrem.

And Candolim is generally a village crowded with tourists, where every second local speaks Russian, sometimes there is nowhere to step on the beach, as many Indians come there on weekends, and in general the atmosphere there is so-so.

In the photo below Ragout. We met him just on the Mandrem beach. Every year, with the beginning of the tourist season, he comes to Goa from Hampi for six months, where he has a wife and a child. They make beads, bracelets and all kinds of trinkets as a family, which he sells in Goa. We met Raga several times in various places in this state.

I suspect some might say that there are better beaches than Mandrem. Like, for example, the same Arambol. But here, to each his own. Arambol is a noisy and crowded beach with hordes of hippies, where you can come at any time.

But Mandrem is really a beach for relaxation. First of all, it will appeal to those who practice yoga and like to meditate. Nobody will bother you here. Well, maybe stray dogs might want to get your attention.

In general, early morning walks along the Mandrem became for me one of the brightest and most memorable moments of the whole trip, along with a train ride to Hampi.

By the way, about Goa. Very often one hears "in Goa". So this is completely illiterate, since Goa is a state, not an island. That is, it will be correct "in Goa".
